Double news Tottenham have given up on Sheffield United amid Micky van de Ven’s dilemma

Tottenham will be looking to end the 2023/24 season on a high after a disappointing few weeks. Spurs have lost five of their last six games, all while being regularly hit by further injury blows, and still managed to hang on to fifth place.

Chelsea are just three points behind Ange Postecoglou’s side in sixth, but a win or a draw against Sheffield United will earn them a place in next season’s Europa League. If that finish is achieved, given the way Spurs have performed in recent seasons, it will surely be a success with Postecoglou delivering his verdict on his first year in charge.

“You start that process towards the end of the season,” he told a news conference. “There are various meetings I have this week. We have one more game to play, which is very important for us. I will try to get as much information as possible before I start reflecting, because to get an accurate information. picture where we are, you have to go right back to the beginning and some of that is a little blurry.

“You have to get all the right information, talk to the people who have been there from the beginning: coaches, staff, players and collate all of that and when the season is over, take the time to go through it methodically and I offer. an accurate picture of where we’re at so when we come back from pre-season we’re in a space where we can hit the ground running.”

For the last clash of the season, Postecoglou is faced with a series of decisions, but two of them have already been taken. On Instagram, both Guglielmo Vicario and Rodrigo Bentancur posted pre-match graphics suggesting they will be involved at Brammall Lane.

Players who post such graphics have tended to make the matchday squad in the past. Injury problems all over the pitch make the starting XI somewhat predictable, however there is a big Micky van de Ven dilemma. The Netherlands international started at left-back earlier this week against Manchester City and while both he and Radu Drăgușin, who started at centre-back, played well, Postecoglou could opt to move Van de Ven back to center.
