Which private high school in the Birmingham area is number one in the state?

The Birmingham metro has the number one private high school in Alabama, according to a recent ranking by education data site Niche.com.

In all, six Birmingham-area private high schools were ranked among the top 30 in Alabama. Indian Springs School earned the highest ranking in the state with first place overall.

The Huntsville metro is connected to six of its top schools, and the Montgomery metro routes are close to five. The Mobile Metro has four.

The ranking came from Niche.com, a web-based company that ranks schools in a wide variety of categories. “The 2024 Best Private High Schools rankings are based on a rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents,” according to the Niche.com website. “Ranking factors include the quality of colleges students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings and more.

“SAT/ACT scores have been removed from this year’s rankings to reflect a general de-emphasis on test scores in the college admissions process. Data sourced from the US Department of Education, niche users and schools directly.”

Specifically, Niche.com depended on the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics for the percentage of seniors attending four-year colleges at a given private high school and the ratio of students to full-time faculty at those schools. . According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 1.4 million students were enrolled in private high schools in the fall of 2021, and there were approximately 3,600 private high schools nationwide as of 2020.

The U.S. Department of Education statistics are the most recent data available, as self-reported by schools, according to Niche.

Private schools in the Birmingham area ranged from Indian Springs School at No. 1 to Hoover Christian School at No. 28, with Oak Mountain’s Westminster School, Briarwood Christian School, Mountain View Baptist School and The Altamont School also ranking.

“For many anxious parents, getting their kids into the best of these private high schools is of the utmost importance,” according to Stacker, who compiled the Niche.com data in a report. “Some families even move home to send their children to better schools. However, out of all these thousands of schools, a few stand out for their academic excellence, incredible results and the future success of their young students.”
