‘In an instant’ – Overwhelming answer to the big question over the future of the former Coventry City favourite

The future of former Coventry City favorite Gustavo Hamer has been thrown into doubt with reports that Sheffield United are ready to snap up the player just 12 months after he joined the club.

The Sky Blues reluctantly sold the Dutch midfielder last summer, receiving £15m for the player who has made it clear he wants to continue his career in Premier League football. But after 12 months, the Blades were relegated back to the Championship and it was claimed the South Yorkshire club were open to offers and looking to recoup their money on Hamer in order to use the money to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

Mark Robins joked last week when discussing Callum O’Hare’s future that, like Hamer, he would miss the club if and when he moves on this summer, pointing to the number of times the former star has returned to CBS Arena to watch. his old teammates from last season. While Hamer is highly unlikely to be a realistic option to return to the club, the mere question of whether fans would want him back has sparked much debate on social media. Neil Smith: It depends how much Sheffield united owe him for him, maybe a deal could be reached, but at the end of the day the player has to want to come back. I think his agent will try to get him another Premier League team.

Jon Gould: I would love him back. The reality is that we don’t pay the tax or the salary.

Chris Allen: I’d have it back in a heartbeat. I think he’ll get a Prem move though. I’ve been watching Sheff Utd quite a bit this year and in the brief moments they had the ball they showed it was Prem quality. Good luck to him.

Wrighty: I’m not sure why people are saying not for £15m because that’s what we sold him for and everyone wanted to keep him in the summer. If no PL team comes in his place, he would be back all day. Would you trade him for Sheaf who has his eye on PL?

Will Smith: He was literally their best player alongside Brereton Diaz, surely a mid-table team would take him?

Mark: This ship has sailed. As much as I think it’s quality and it was for us, I personally wouldn’t want it back no.

Paul Bonehill: No, Robins only want players dedicated to the cause, Gus jumped ship, understands why, but won’t be coming back.

Richard Platts: Whatever happens, we have to move on – it won’t necessarily be sugar coated the second time around.. I’d be more excited to see Sheaf start the season eager to go.

Tony Buchanan: Sure, but I doubt it will come. The upper division is a sweet taste once tested.

Glen Hammond: I personally would have him back in a heartbeat, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen.

Paul Jones: Pretty disrespectful to blades. They should see Gus as the main man to pick them back up – not dump him. I’d have him back – but at a fair salary with a huge promotional bonus.

Twist ‘n’ Shout: I really wouldn’t. This will upset a lot, but when the manager says he wants to sign players committed to the cause rather than looking for their next move, which doesn’t include a guy who turned down the chance to build the team around him 12 months ago.

Lee Barker: Our best shot (and by best, I mean marginally beyond impossible), would be a loan, which would have to come out of our salary (which would destroy our salary structure, so GH would need to write off a % of salary), with a £15m buyout in the promotion. Basically no chance.

Julie Jones: We need a stronger player in our midfield and Hamer can score goals so yes please.

Mark Pooler: Romantically it sounds great but there is a saying in football “Never go back”

Thomas Daly: I would have it back all day…can’t see it happening sad.

Gav: He would be the best player in the championship. Build a team around him, we’re going up. Simple.

Dan Harvey: Obviously, he’d love it back, but Doug will find similar quality for a quarter of the price this summer.

Martin: Absolutely 100 percent. I’d have him back – he’s a class player in the Championship. But it won’t happen when money talks along with the player who, quite rightly, probably wants to stay in the PL.
