Axelar has officially launched the Mobius Development Stack (MDS), a platform designed to provide customizable, self-service interoperability across various blockchains on its mainnet. Prominent tier 1 blockchains such as Sui, Stellar, XRP Ledger, as well as security providers EigenLayer and OpenZeppelin will adopt MDS to build a truly open and connected web3 ecosystem.

As a platform for an omnichain world, MDS helps break down the barriers between different blockchains. Developers can create applications that work across multiple networks and tailor MDS to their specific needs. The platform, which the team describes as the first to offer a holistic approach to interoperability, enables customizable, self-service integration with any system, on-chain or off-chain.

The MDS approach can lead to a better user experience and encourage more innovation, as people can interact with applications on different blockchains without having to switch between them. The platform aims to redefine user and data interaction on the web3, promising a single connection with unlimited possibilities.

“With MDS, we empower developers to build decentralized applications that freely compose resources, logic, value and network effects in a truly global Internet landscape,” Georgios Vlachos, director at the Axelar Foundation and co-founder of the Axelar protocol , he said.

The Axelar MDS will support level 1 major blocks via the Interchain Amplifier. This is one of the key features of MDS that enables permissionless, dynamic and customizable integrations with various consensus approaches.

“Axelar MDS will give developers the tools to compose these innovations with web3 technology and communities,” Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, developer of the Sui network, commented on the release.

In addition to the Interchain booster, Axelar’s MDS introduces the Interchain Token Service (ITS). This feature will facilitate the rapid tokenization of assets, expanding beyond traditional blockchain bridges to include real-world assets, thereby expanding the scope for decentralized financial applications and services.

According to Jasmine Cooper, Head of Product at RippleX, seamless interoperability between different blockchains is critical to realizing the full potential of the web3. She believes that integrating the XRP Ledger with MDS can help RippleX facilitate cross-asset mobility and protocol access, providing greater value to both users and developers.

The platform also integrates cutting-edge security features from Babylon and EigenLayer, improving cross-interactions with Bitcoin and Ethereum-level security.

“Integrating with the Axelar Mobius Development Stack opens up a universe of opportunities to redo in new use cases that were previously inaccessible to Eigen,” said Luke Hajdukiewicz, AVS BD’s Head of EigenLayer. “Axelar and EigenLayer reach the same vision: a horizontally scalable web3 where developers freely compose across networks and user resources.”
