The fireman adopts a dog he helped save after finding it with its dead owner

A firefighter and a dog he helped save are now inseparable after the emergency worker found the dog next to the body of her deceased owner.

Firefighters from the Helston community were called to help police and ambulance services gain access to a house in Breage, near Helston, on April 18. Inside, they found a resident who had sadly passed away – and, lying right next to them, a lonely dog. .

Finding no immediate family member to take the pup, firefighter James Trounson decided to adopt Martha. He was able to take the dog home after obtaining permission from the police and checks carried out by the RSPCA.

After the Martha Terrier received a clean bill of health from a local vet, James offered to take her on as a companion for his other dog, Merlin the Collie. The pair are said to be now inseparable.

James said: “He is completely at home with us and a happy dog. She’s here on the farm, riding the tractor like it’s second nature to her, she’s completely taken with our surroundings.

“She comes to work with me, she spends all day with me on a building site, there’s no problem,” added James, a retained firefighter from Mullion Community Fire Station, who covers Helston when he’s in the area.
