The number of Covid cases in the UK falls again, being recorded at 36,389 with 64 deaths

Covid cases fell again as Britain recorded 36,389 infections and 64 deaths on Friday.

This followed Thursday’s declining figures of 39,906 daily Covid cases and 84 deaths.

Earlier this week, the United Kingdom on Wednesday posted the world’s second-highest country count of new Covid cases after the US.

More than 44,104 daily cases were recorded in the highest Wednesday figure since January 13.

New data revealed that the vaccine rollout continued to be a success, with 83,239,491 Covid injections given in the UK.

46,476,845 were the first doses, an increase of 43,000 on the previous day.

The remaining 36,762,646 were second doses, an increase of 174,742.

But eight London boroughs are now on a Covid watch list as the number of cases continues to rise in the capital while vaccination rates fall.

Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington, Southwark, Lambeth and Hammersmith and Fulham made the Covid watch list, according to the ZOE Covid Symptom Study.

It comes as a north London hospital has urged people to avoid going to A&E where possible amid a struggle to cope with arrivals.

Barnet Hospital’s emergency department struggled with a higher turnout as the borough saw 35,000 Covid cases in four weeks.

Dr. Angshu Mukherjee, the department’s clinical director, made an extraordinary appeal to the public in a YouTube video released on July 21.

Dressed in scrubs and speaking through a clinical face mask, Dr Mukherjee said: “Every day we see more and more patients arriving and the demand for our services is growing exponentially.

“We are now at a stage where we are asking the general public in Barnet to consider using other services for their health requirements.

“If you think you need to see a clinician, doctor or nurse, but your condition is not life-threatening, call 111.”

The increase in A&E attendances is not just due to Covid or any other specific area, the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust said.
