Jurgen Klopp fought back tears after watching an emotional tribute from Liverpool players past and present.

Klopp will leave Anfield after nine years as Liverpool manager, during which he won eight major trophies. The most recent came in February when the Reds won the Carabao Cup, adding to a collection that also includes the Champions League and Premier League.

In January, Klopp first announced that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. Since then, there has been intense speculation as to who could replace the German at Anfield, with Arne Slot expected to take over later this summer.

Ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League final against Wolves, Sky Sports posted a video in which Klopp watched tributes from Liverpool players past and present. Tributes included messages from current squad members including Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Former players including Adam Lallana and James Milner, as well as club legends Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Sir Kenny Dalglish, also sent messages to Klopp. As the tributes continued, Klopp could be seen fighting back tears as he was visibly emotional watching the video.

“Oh wow. I think we can all agree, like it or not, Liverpool is a very, very special club,” Klopp told Sky Sports after watching the tributes to his legacy.

“Everything. What we do here feels like it means more. Of course people will say we’ve won one Premier League and that’s absolutely fine because it’s true.

“I’m interested? Not. Why should it? It doesn’t define you as a human being. If you want five or six trophies, it defines you as a human being.

“How long have you tried this, almost nine years. It’s such a big part of your life. We’ve spent it together and everyone feels the same way. It was worth it.”
