Manchester United in Europe, barring a miracle, Chelsea full comeback

TThe 2023-24 Premier League season ended with an intense final as Manchester City defended their title.

Chelsea completed a comeback to secure European football for next season, while it was a setback for Manchester United, who could be without European football next season.

All the big teams won their matches on the last day:

  • Manchester City beat West Ham 3-1.
  • Arsenal beat Everton 2-1.
  • Liverpool won 2-0 against Wolves.
  • Tottenham triumphed 3-0 at Sheffield.
  • Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1.
  • Manchester United secured a 2-0 win against Brighton.

The only top team to lose was Villa Astonwho were already assured of fourth place, suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.

London teams like Crystal Palace and Arsenal finished the season in top form with six wins and a draw in their last seven games.

The places for the European competition have been finalised, although the FA Cup final still has the potential to mix up some of the places:

Champions League:

  • Manchester City (Champions)

  • Liverpool
  • Villa Aston

FA Cup implications

FA Cup Final between the city of Manchester and Manchester United could affect these placements.

If City winChelsea will move to the Europa League and Newcastle will enter the Conference League.

If United winthey will play in the Europa League and Chelsea will remain in the Conference League, leaving Newcastle without a European place.

Relegation to the championship

The relegation battle ended without last-minute drama. Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town relegated and will play in the championship next season. Despite points deductions for Nottingham Forest and Everton, they avoided the drop.

Leicester City and Town of Ipswich were promoted to the Premier League. The final promotion place will be decided at Wembley between Leeds and Southampton.
