South Africans Abroad Unite in Honest Electoral Votes!

South Africans abroad have proudly cast their vote in the 2024 election, sharing emotional moments online that highlight their enduring connection to home.

South Africa (19 May 2024) – South Africans living abroad began casting their ballots for the 2024 national and provincial elections this weekend, and inspiring scenes shared online will give you ‘all the feels’.

From London to Seoul, Berlin and New York, our fellow South Africans have shown their commitment to democracy and it is truly heartwarming.

“South African citizens living in other countries voted for the first time on 17 May 2024. Nine countries voted on Friday and the remaining 102 voted on Saturday 18 May 2024,” said Electoral Commission Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo ( IEC). .

With a high turnout expected, especially in London where 24,194 voters are registered, the polling station there will operate over two days, 18 and 19 May 2024. The international segment of the electoral roll includes 56,698 voters, but the total number of people expect the vote to be an impressive 76,580.

β€œThis follows the approval of 20,886 VEC10 notifications from voters who informed the Chief Electoral Officer of their intention to vote outside the country due to temporary absence,” Mamabolo explained.

Ensuring a smooth voting process in 111 foreign missions around the world is no small task, but the IEC was well prepared for the task. The sense of unity and patriotism among South Africans abroad was palpable, as evidenced by the many heartfelt posts on social media.

From families dressing up in traditional attire to head to the polling stations, to friends sharing selfies with their inked fingers and even a guy in a ‘Faf’ speedo, the images and stories are a beautiful memory of our shared commitment to the future of our country. .

These posts have been streaming and we’ve collected some of the most moving ones to share with you.

The overwhelming support and enthusiasm seen in these posts reminds us of the strength of our nation, even when we are miles away from home. Moments like these make us proud to be South Africans. Our diaspora turned out in numbers, proving that no matter where we are in the world, our hearts remain firmly rooted in South Africa.

Greetings to all our fellow South Africans who voted abroad. Your dedication to participating in our democracy is truly inspiring.

South African elections are coming up. Get ready, fellow citizens; May 29, 2024 is just a few days away!
