Klopp happy to be part of Liverpool history as he says goodbye to Anfield

It was a comfortable afternoon inside an emotional Merseyside stadium.

The game would only produce one result and there was no turning back for Wolves once Liverpool went 2-0 up.

At the end, a ceremony was prepared for Klopp and his staff, who came out wearing special shirts and did a lap of honor while the crowd sang their favorite songs with him.

Speaking about his departure, Klopp said: “I thought it might be sadder at first, but when people realize it’s all good. Sincere.

“If I go on, these guys and others will say ‘he’s been there too long.’ You must be the spark. I love the team. There is so much potential. They will make changes here and there.

“I’m sure you will all agree that there is no need for an overhaul. I finished in third place. I was ahead of schedule. It’s a statement in this powerful league and I’m absolutely fine with that.”

Liverpool were in contention for the title until the last few weeks, but fell behind Arsenal and eventual champions Manchester City.

Klopp remains the only manager to oust Pep Guardiola since winning the Premier League for the first time with City in 2018.

He added: “There was such a long run up to this day and it was very intense.

“I’ve had bad moments too, but thank God, not today. I’m just thankful for what happened.

“When you’re in it, sometimes you forget how great it is. You take it for granted. Now I’m sitting here, I’m so happy to be part of the club’s history. It’s great.

“It’s so special, it’s hard to explain. We live in a world where everything is about results for others.

“We learn that we don’t get absolutely everything is fine. It’s such a great life lesson. It’s not about that, it’s about the journey and togetherness and I love that. Things may not always go perfectly.

“The other clubs, with the most money and the best managers, win it. We didn’t have the best manager and we never had the best team, but for a while we played the best football and I like that.

“We are a solid club and we don’t spend too much. People say “you didn’t spend enough”. what the hell do you want I only understand that from the Liverpool way.”
