We put Chevy’s new Equinox EV through the Wringer family SUV: it passed

  • We tested the Equinox EV’s capability as family transport.
  • Access to Tesla’s Supercharger stations eased my action anxiety.
  • For a smaller hatchback, the Equinox EV impressed me with its cargo space.

Chevrolet is introducing the Equinox EV as an option for today’s more practical electric vehicle buyers.

When I sat down with Chevrolet chief marketing officer Steve Majoro at the vehicle’s summer launch, he told me that the Equinox EV was designed to pass the “kitchen table conversation” test.

“You have to be able to look at your partner and say, ‘This car meets the fundamental needs of our family,'” he said.

So when I had the chance to drive the $46,595 Equinox EV for a week, I wanted to test the practicality of Chevy’s newest electric car with my partner and our two-year-old son.

Over seven days by car, I accumulated hundreds of kilometers. I ran a lot of errands, drove into Detroit almost every day, and even commuted to Ann Arbor a few times.

I admit I was skeptical going in. Over the years, I’ve dealt with range anxiety and learned the ropes with new electric cars. But the Equinox EV has slotted into our busy lives quite seamlessly.
