The big-name store is closing at the Piazza shopping center in Huddersfield

A big name store has closed in the Piazza shopping center in Huddersfield.

As part of a number of closures across the UK, WH Smith left its premises earlier this month after its lease on the unit came to an end. A WH Smith spokesman said: “It is no longer sustainable to continue trading from this location and the decision has been taken to close the store as a result of the upcoming lease expiry.

“We are disappointed to lose our presence at this location and would like to thank all of our customers for their support and shopping with us. We are also extremely grateful for the commitment of our store colleagues who we will support in this transition and redeploy them to nearby stores where possible.”

Elsewhere, in Huddersfield town centre, we recently reported that another store will be closing soon. In the windows of Freddie’s Home Store, you’ll currently see “end of lease, closing” in big letters.

The closure will be different for New Street. Walking from the start and end of the pedestrianized section of New Street, from the former Wilko unit to B&M, on Friday 17th May, I saw 10 vacant shop units. Many with “to leave” signs in their windows.

As always, we’ll keep you posted on the latest shop openings and closings in Huddersfield.
