Sheffield Wednesday starting XI last time they beat Sheffield United in the Steel City derby

Sheffield Wednesday will be in the same league as rivals Sheffield United for the first time since the 2019/20 season.

Sheffield United’s swift relegation back to the Championship looked all but confirmed for months before it was made official with a 5-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

However, it was unclear whether the Steel City derby would return next season, with Sheffield Wednesday’s future in doubt.

The Owls had spent most of the campaign in the relegation zone before finally heading for safety with three straight wins.

Danny Rohl’s side needed just one point in their last one-day trip to Sunderland but claimed all three.

Fans will now be able to look forward to next season’s derby day as Wednesday rise to claim their first win against the Blades since February 26, 2012.

That season they won automatic promotion to the second tier, with United finishing just behind them.

The Owls won 1-0 in the Championship that day but have since lost one and endured three 0-0 draws.

Here’s Wednesday’s starting line-up last time they beat Sheffield United…
