Chris Sutton has said the club will be concerned about the £8million striker leaving and Leeds are now interested

Leeds United are reportedly interested in a Championship striker ahead of the summer and it comes after Chris Sutton said the club would be concerned about losing the forward.

Leeds are likely to look for a new striker in the summer, with Patrick Bamford’s injury problems still proving to be a difficulty for both club and player, while Leeds’ Joel Piroe’s form has been very high and in down lately.

Piroe produced his best performance in a Leeds shirt on Thursday night, but it comes after a difficult second half of the season in which the Dutchman lost steam after Bamford replaced him.

Mateo Joseph remains one for the future but is closing in on a spot in the side. Leeds may feel they need other options up top and American star Josh Sargent has emerged as a possible target for The Whites.

Daniel Farke signed Sargent from Norwich in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £8m and this season he has enjoyed his best campaign at Carrow Road – scoring 16 goals in 26 appearances in championship.

Interest in Sargent will come as no surprise to Norwich icon Sutton, who said the Canaries are worried about losing the striker before the summer after failing to secure promotion.

Sargent is a top player at Championship level and although he initially struggled in the Premier League, he has shown improvement in recent seasons and could be much better in the second round.

Reports state that not only Leeds are keen if Farke secures promotion, but Premier League trio Brighton, Brentford and Fulham are keen to sign the Norwich star. It’s not clear how much Norwich would want.

Sutton wrote of Sargent in Pink’Un’s February column: “Scoring goals is confidence and he’s pouring it out at the moment. Considering the way he started his career at Norwich, he looks like a transformed player.

“After a difficult season in the Premier League, he was probably wondering if he had a future at the club. The position has changed, Norwich will worry about keeping him on track for the summer.”

What Daniel Farke said about Sargent in the past at Norwich

Farke worked with the “remarkable” Sargent for just a few months after signing him in 2021, with Farke being sacked before Christmas that year as he once again struggled to get it right in the Premier League.

But Sargent’s admiration was clear, with Farke impressed by the American’s work rate in his first season in the Premier League. Here’s what Farke had to say about Leeds’ new target three years ago.

After a clash with Brighton, Farke praised his “remarkable” striker: “Outstanding performance. His workload was incredible both with and against the ball. He was able to keep the ball in the pocket.”
