Croydon boy dies after being hit by van in Blackburn North

A 10-year-old boy has died in hospital three days after being hit by a van in Melbourne.

Jack Power, from Croydon, was knocked down while crossing Springfield Road in Blackburn North, in the east of the city, on Saturday night.

The boy who attended Croydon Hills Primary School, he was with his six-year-old sister and a 10-year-old friend at a traffic light when he was hit by a Toyota Hiace van.

The other two girls were not injured.

On Tuesday, Jack’s parents made the heartbreaking decision to take him off life support.

“He always wanted to help other kids to be like that, to care more about each other,” Jack’s mother Bonnie Power told Fairfax Media on Wednesday.

Jack’s father Matt said his son was “one of those rare people who was always caring and compassionate towards others”.

A 45-year-old driver was interviewed by police and released as inquiries continue.
