Burnley and Sheffield United are lining up a move to sign the former Liverpool and Preston star from the Swiss club

LIAM MILLAR is being chased by relegated Premier League duo Burnley and Sheffield United.

And the 24-year-old Basel midfielder has also attracted the interest of several clubs in the championship.

This includes Preston, where he spent last season on loan, and Sunderland, as well as a number of European sides.

Millar has a year left on his contract with the Swiss Super League side and that has alerted both Vincent Kompany’s side and the Blades.

But the former Liverpool star has scored five goals for Ryan Lowe’s Lilywhites in 35 second-tier games.

The Canada international has been involved in 13 goal contributions throughout the campaign – three for Basel and ten for Preston.

And that was with Millar playing out of full-back.

Millar joined Liverpool’s academy aged 16 and made a first-team appearance in an FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury in 2020.

He had loan spells at Scottish club Kilmarnock and Charlton before leaving Anfield for Basel in a £1.3m deal in 2021.

Last September, Millar joined Preston on a season-long loan.

And he has impressed under Preston boss Lowe, who wants to keep him on a permanent transfer.

But Lowe knows there will be major interest from the trio of clubs relegated from the Premier League.

No call option is believed to have been entered into the loan move.
