Social Club Tournament

Seriously… you had to be there.

In what was one of the highlights of the season, the Club Social saw players and fans mingle and laugh in equal parts as the club crowned the Supporters’ Choice Players of the Season and the newly established, Peter Wheeler Medal.

Tigers men’s backrower Hanro Liebenberg became the first ever recipient of the medal, named after Peter Wheeler, who made 349 appearances, including a long spell as captain, and coached the club to the Courage Club Championship in 1987/88 – the first league season national. – and then served as chairman when the game entered another era of professionalism in 1995, before being named its first chief executive.

The medal is awarded to the player, from either team, who has demonstrated the Tiger Way throughout the season, both on and off the field.

A devoted season ticket holder and volunteer in our community, Gill Conaron received the Foundation Award for her tireless commitment to the club.

Tigers women’s center Meg Jones took home the Supporters’ Player of the Year and lock Ollie Chessum won the men’s award.

Finally, Tongan star Solomone Kata was voted Best New Male Player and Scotland international Francesca McGhie took home Best New Female Player.

The Tigers would like to thank all the supporters who attended the event and our brilliant hosts Ben Youngs and Dan Cole.
