The Responder’s Martin Freeman welcomes Liverpool as the stars of the BBC show return to the city for a special event

Stars of The Responder arrived at FACT tonight for a special holiday screening.

The second season of the hit show arrived on BBC and iPlayer on Sunday to widespread critical acclaim. Martin Freeman has once again stunned fans by reprising his role as Chris Carson for five more episodes of the crime drama.




The 51-year-old adopted a Scouse accent to play the troubled police officer and told the ECHO he was honored to win the support of Liverpudlians. He said: “I’ve always been very aware that this could go either way because if you’re in this town, doing this part and they don’t like it, then you’ll know.

“The way this city has taken the show into its heart and what I’m doing into its heart has been really wonderful. Liverpool have been very nice to the show, but also nice to me as an outsider.”


Martin was among the stars who turned up at the Wood Street cinema for Tuesday’s event. He was joined by the show’s creator, Tony Schumacher, who was surprised by the critical response so far.

The 56-year-old writer said: “The last few days have been a blur and looking through my social media has been an absolute delight. Thank you so much for the love you have shown this show. We all care so much. about it and the city it was made in, so I’m glad I didn’t let you down.”

Many stars of the show attended the event including Adelayo Adedayo, Adam Nagaitis, Emily Fairn, Faye McKeever and Phiip S McGuinness. The ECHO was also on the red carpet to interview the cast and crew ahead of the festive screening.
