Teenage drug dealer who killed father-of-two bought 65 knives using mum’s name months before murder

A 17-year-old drug dealer convicted of murdering a father-of-two bought 65 knives online in the months before the murder. Rayis Nibeel was sentenced to 20 years at St Albans Crown Court on Friday for stabbing 38-year-old Omar Khan in a drug row in Luton last September.

In her sentencing remarks, Mrs Justice Foster detailed how Nibeel set up an online account in his mother’s name to buy knives even though he was under 18. He bought dozens of weapons, including kukris, bayonets and large hunting knives, and sold them for a profit. .




The judge said: “Mr Nibeel has placed a number of orders over the past few months for a huge quantity of knives, approximately 65 bladed items, costing over £1,200, none of which had a legitimate purpose in your possession and all but one hand. that you had until the time of these crimes”.

“You set up a customer account in your mother’s name to shop for the knife, paying for all but a few of them from your account and arranging for them to be delivered to your home address.”

“You explained that you sold guns to make extra money and armed yourself because of drug dealing.”

Last week, police chiefs warned that under-18s buying knives online remained a serious concern and said senior officers had met with retailers and social media firms to try to stop illegal sales.

Commander Stephen Clayman, the national police leader, said knives were being illegally sold to under-18s through social media channels including TikTok, Snapchat and those run by Meta.
