Sonic the Hedgehog director teases easter eggs in movie

From Digital Spy

As the reaction to the original design showed, Sonic the Hedgehog was not an easy game to adapt for a live-action film.

But as much as Sonic himself proved a challenge, it was actually another character who proved difficult to pull off: Dr Robotnik.

“With Robotnik, there wasn’t a lot to draw from the source material, because it’s mustache-twirling, and for the purpose of the movie, we tried to keep it a little more grounded,” director Jeff Fowler said. The digital spy.

“I mean, obviously we had a lot of fun with the character. The development that went into it and all that was so great, just by casting Jim Carrey and all the ideas that he brought. .

“It felt like he really responded to the character in the most incredible way and had so many ideas about how to develop him.”

As expected, Carrey brought a lot of improvisation to the role and “so many great ideas and pitches”.

“It’s really so much fun to see what he’s cooked up and try stuff. We were always doing alternatives, or just finding different gags and ways to do the scene. That gave us a lot of options when it came to editing,” added Fowler.

And even though Fowler was trying to keep the film grounded and give Sonic a “satisfying emotional arc,” there are still plenty of Easter eggs in the film for fans to enjoy.

“We always knew that we wanted to have a version of his island and see the Green Hill Zone – the cinematic version of it – and really render that and create that image in a way that would really excite the fans , because it is so lush and so beautiful,” he noted.

“The rings are definitely another huge component of it. It was something I knew had to be a significant element. And then he got into all the Easter egg stuff, which is always so fun to do.

“It’s not like you’re going hard story-wise to put these things in. They are what they are, which is just easter eggs and things that might be thrown in there along the way. It’s just a way to reward the fans for their years of enthusiasm.”
