Instead, Simon has a handy tip that will appeal to all the tea and coffee drinkers out there – using boiling water from the kettle as the ‘perfect solution’. Whether you’re dealing with mature weeds or new growth, Simon assures that this simple trick “will rid your yard of unsightly weeds this summer — for free,” reports the Express.

He explained: “This targeted method not only means that your patio will end up weed-free, but it ensures that there is no damage to the patio or the surrounding environment as there is no debris left around. You should start seeing results within minutes. as the boiling water breaks down the weed – with full results within hours.”

To try this trick, simply fill the kettle with water and bring it to a boil. Take your closed kettle out onto the patio and get as close to the weeds as possible, using the spout to aim directly and slowly soak the weeds thoroughly.

Simon advised gardeners to “wait for the magic to happen”, with results showing “within minutes”. He recommended repeating the process at the first sign of new weeds.

So what makes this trick so effective? That’s because boiling water “scalds the weeds by killing the leaves,” which are crucial to gathering light and maintaining weed vigor.

The expert also noted that hot water can penetrate cracks, helping to weaken and shock the taproot. While this technique works wonders on patios, driveways and gravel weeds, Simon highlighted two places you should never use boiling water.

He warned against using boiling water on lawn weeds because it will “kill them”. High heat often removes the protective layers from the leaves and can damage their roots with repeated use.

Gardeners should also refrain from applying this method to weeds near garden plants. Boiling water can damage parts of other plants it touches, especially when they are young.
