Sheffield Wednesday man Reece James on Rotherham United’s radar

Sheffield Wednesday defender Reece James is a League One transfer target, with Rotherham United among those keen, according to The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to see a number of senior players this summer.

As confirmed on their retained list, versatile defender Reece James will leave at the end of his contract alongside George Byers, Lee Gregory, Ciaran Brennan, Tyreeq Bakinson and Juan Delgado.

Barry Bannan, Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks, Cameron Dawson and Josh Windass have meanwhile received new offers.

Those moving away from Hillsborough will not be short of interest and it seems that former Manchester United youngster James is among those attracting early admirers.

The Star report that relegated Rotherham United are keen on the 30-year-old as he prepares to leave Sheffield Wednesday. Talks are expected to take place this week, but other League One and League Two clubs are also interested in James, it added.

James leaves the Owls having played 45 times in total, with just 11 of those outings coming in the 2023/24 campaign.
