LFC Women’s U21s lift the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup

A hat-trick from striker Lili Baidoe and two from midfielder Maddy Duffy led the scoring as the side collected the trophy – which eluded them in last season’s final – in fine style.

The young reds were two goals up inside six minutes and never looked like being caught by a lively Mossley Hill side.

Goals from strike pair Charlie Chadwick and Baidoe gave the U21s the lead before substitute Libby Bermingham made it three before the break after replacing the injured Chadwick.

Baidoe added two more after the break, as did Duffy, with Holly Tickle the other to find the back of the net.

Mossley Hill goalkeeper Olivia Cull made some superb saves to keep her side in contention, although the Reds stretched to secure the silverware denied them by Liverpool Feds last year.

It took just two minutes for Liverpool to take the lead with a goal glorious in its simplicity.

Baidoe collected a good channel pass down the right and picked out Chadwick with a pinpoint cross, the forward giving Cull no chance with her power.

Mia Leath, who made her senior debut last month, almost made it two in three minutes, her low shot going just wide.

The reprieve only lasted a minute as the Reds extended their lead to six minutes.

Baidoe controlled a good cross from the left with her first touch before easily slotting home beyond Cull for an early day for Simon O’Neill’s side.

Liverpool’s front pair caused their opponents all sorts of early problems and looked to extend their lead with every attack.

A great close hold from Baidoe stretched the Mossley Hill defense on 10 minutes before the ball broke to Chadwick with her effort too high.

The strike pair were at it again two minutes later, Baidoe’s clever strike sent Chadwick through on goal, only to be denied by an excellent save from Cull.

The front duo looked unstoppable until injury struck on 20 minutes, with Chadwick unable to continue after an earlier knock.

Cull kept Mossley Hill in the game and made an incredible save to keep the deficit at two in the 26th minute.

A great run from Duffy got her in behind the defense and set up a pass for Baidoe, but her goalbound effort was stopped by a stunning reflex save from the stopper.

However, even Cull could do nothing in the 38th minute as the Reds finally extended their lead to three.

Baidoe sent a searching ball down the right wing to find Bo Price, her perfect cross headed in by substitute Bermingham for the three-goal cushion.

In first-half injury time, midfielder Holly McEvoy made a wonderful run forward only for Cull to save in the corner before Duffy was also put through on goal, the keeper again producing heroics to leave his side three behind at break time.

Liverpool continued their dominance after the interval with Baidoe winning and converting a penalty three minutes from the restart for his side’s second and fourth.

Rishona Dykes tracked well for Mossley Hill to deny Bo Price at the back post, while Baidoe’s header was too close to Cull as she went for her hat-trick from a corner of Birmingham.

Ten minutes into the second half and the fifth arrived, Baidoe’s ball to ball perfectly finished by the impressive Duffy.

Left-back Alice Mottershead almost earned an assist as well, her low cross being turned just wide by Bermingham.

It was impossible to keep Biadoe out, though, and the striker duly completed his hat-trick before the hour mark.

She took a free pass, rounded Cull and slotted home her third to the delight of the fans in attendance.

Mossley Hill continued to fight and were rewarded when substitute Jodie Mortimer turned the ball home following a scramble in the Reds box.

Liverpool, however, went in search of more goals at the other end and did so with a seven as Tickle’s rising shot was too powerful for Cull following a corner before Duffy added his second with a curling finish eight minutes later.

Baidoe attempted an outrageous volley from the edge of the box late on, only to be denied one of the goals of the season by the crossbar.

However, it was captain Leath who was left to lift the impressive LCFA Senior Cup trophy, with a string of LFC Women’s First Team chasing.
