A violent gang launched a “savage” attack on a teenager in Coventry city centre

A violent Coventry gang has been convicted of a “savage” attack in the city center which left a teenager seriously injured. Police said the group of eight men attacked a teenager near the upper compound.

Detectives said the 19-year-old victim was at a music event when, for reasons that remain unclear, he was chased by a group armed with guns in the early hours of October 6, 2023. He was found with serious injuries on Upper. enclosure.

He was hit in the legs and injured with knives as he was attacked twice as he tried to escape, West Midlands Police said. Officers from the Coventry Local Police Area (LPA) were able to quickly identify everyone involved.

In the first attack, Prince Lhamy and Reverend Adabie hit the teenager with weapons before he managed to run a short distance to the Upper Precinct. He was then attacked again, with more members of the group joining in, West Midlands Police said.

Alexander Nzola, Jaiden Grant, Zachary Williams, Kennedy Ikwuemesi and Hossame Madmoune either pulled out guns or kicked him before they all fled. Police said the teenage victim was found in serious condition around 3:30 a.m.

Fortunately, despite multiple serious injuries, help from members of the public and emergency services saved his life, West Midlands Police said. Police launched an investigation into the attack, examining CCTV and phone records, which led to a series of warrants being executed in the West Midlands and as far away as London and Brighton.

Lhamy, Adabie, Eniola Akingbesote, Nzola, Williams and Grant were arrested in the Midlands. Police detained Ikweumesi in London and Madmoune in Brighton.

A total of eight men were convicted following a trial that ended on Friday (17 May). Lhamy, 21, of Whitefriars Lane, was found guilty of possession of a bladed weapon, violent disorder and wounding with intent, West Midlands Police said.

Adabie, 20, of Cliveland Street, Birmingham, and Williams, 19, of Paradise Street, were found guilty of attempted murder, West Midlands Police said. Nzola, 21, of Bishop Street, was found guilty of violent disorder and wounding.

Akingbesote, 21, of Bagot Street, Birmingham, admitted possession of an offensive weapon and Grant, 19, of Staniforth Street, Birmingham, Ikwuemesi, 21, of Whitefriars Lane, and Madmoune, 19, were found guilty of violent disorder and injury. All eight defendants will be sentenced on Thursday, July 11.

“Savage Attack”

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Jobson, of Coventry LPA, said: “Our officers worked quickly and efficiently to quickly find those involved in this savage attack and there is no place for such extreme violence in this city. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured.

“We will not tolerate the carrying of weapons or such disorder in Coventry and these men will rightly spend time behind bars and these convictions will no doubt have an impact on their lives for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, such excessive violence in Coventry is rare and does not reflect on this great city where so many live, work and socialize happily and safely.”
