Sex offender caught with 20 indecent images of children

A sex offender is back behind bars after being caught with 20 indecent images of children. The police say that of the 20, eleven were category A, images classified as the most serious.

Registered sex offender Christopher Wood was caught when officers from Warwickshire Police’s Sex Offender Management Unit (SOMU) paid an unannounced visit to his home in Alcester last November.

The visit was made as part of his five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). As part of this SHPO, he was required to make electronic devices capable of accessing the internet available to a police officer upon request.

Officers also found evidence that the 23-year-old had deleted things from his phone in breach of the SHPO. Wood was arrested and his phone was sent for further analysis. This analysis found 20 indecent images of children, 11 of which were category A.

Wood of Kingfisher Way was jailed for 16 months at Warwick Crown Court last week. Detective Constable Matt Collins from SOMU said: “We welcome Wood’s sentence and hope it demonstrates how the police and courts act to enforce court orders made to protect the public.

“We work hard to monitor people subject to sexual harm prevention orders and those who break the strict conditions imposed on them should be in no doubt that they will be caught and brought to justice.”
