Leeds United have been credited with an interest in signing Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove this summer, but the 22-year-old talent is seen as the “future” of his club.

The Whites are potentially one game away from being back in the Premier League at the first time of asking when they face Southampton at Wembley this Sunday.

An instant return to the top flight would make for a very busy summer for the 49ers as they aim to restore Leeds’ long-sought status as one of the big hitters in the world’s most prestigious league.

Leeds are interested in signing Roma sensation Edoardo Bove

Earlier this month, a report emerged from Italian outlet Giallorossi.net claiming that Leeds are keen to sign Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove this summer.

Bove was previously a key figure in Jose Mourinho’s management but has found a more sporadic presence in Daniele De Rossi’s plans of late.

Such a development has alerted Leeds to his potential availability this summer, with his agent likely to scout possible offers for the 22-year-old.

Playoff Final: Leeds United v Southampton predictions

Bove is a ‘perfect fit’ for English football but a move may be unlikely

National outlet Corriere Dello Sport have now softened the mood at Leeds over Bove’s links, saying his childhood link with Roma makes him the club’s “future” next season.

This was underlined by his outstanding efforts in midfield at the weekend against Djed Spence’s Genoa, recording a 94% pass accuracy in the middle of the park and hopefully cementing his place under De Rossi.

The report says:

There are certainly no shortage of offers for him, not after these last two seasons. Just over a year ago, Edoardo had taken Roma to the Europa League final with his goal at Bayer, but now he has matured and prepared to live next season as a true protagonist.

Italian and foreign clubs were interested in him, especially in the Premier League. Inevitably, its characteristics blend perfectly with English football. But neither he nor Roma are thinking of a transfer: Bove is an important element of the team. Roman and Romanist, appreciated by teammates, coach and supporters: the future is all his.

Based on this latest performance, the tide could have turned for Bove to become one of De Rossi’s key players who will not be transferred in the summer.

Bove would be a hard sell even if we got promoted

The lure and financial power of the Premier League would give Leeds a chance with Bove if we get promoted, but it’s still a tough ask.

He is their star talent and one their fans would be loathe to see go, so they will do everything to hold onto him.

However, money talks and Roma’s continued struggle to stay within FFP restrictions could mean a sensible bid is being considered.
