Armed police were deployed as a man ‘fired a gun’ near Leicester Royal Infirmary

A man allegedly fired a gun near Leicester Royal Infirmary this morning. Armed police were called to the scene, with two arrests.

The incident happened just before 9.30am on Tuesday (May 7) following reports of a man firing an air gun on Winifred Street in Leicester. The man had fired the gun from a property in the area which backs onto Leicester Royal Infirmary.



Armed officers have been deployed in the area. A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said the move was made “in the interests of public safety and policing”.

Following the incident, two arrests were made. The force’s spokesman said a 32-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

No injuries were reported following the incident. Leicestershire Police said the man and woman remain in custody. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
