Heaney-Paul rematch at Magnificent 7 Warren’s return to Birmingham

Frank Warren’s latest Magnificent Seven offering takes place in Birmingham on Saturday 20th July.

The bill is headlined by super-bantamweight contender Liam Davies against Shabaz Masoud and also boasts the highly-anticipated British Middleweight title rematch between champion Nathan Heaney and Brad Pauls.

The show takes place at the Resorts World Arena and features new Queensberry Promotions signing Chantelle Cameron and English Heavyweight Champion Sol Dacres taking on David Adeleye in his first fight since joining Adam Booth.

English welterweight champion Owen Cooper meets Ekow Essuman, British and Commonwealth champion Ashley Lane defends against Liverpool’s Andrew Cain and there is a return to the ring for light heavyweight prospect Ezra Taylor.

Headliner Davies is 17-0 (8 KOs) and last won in spectacular fashion against Erik Robles Ayala in March. Stoke’s talented Masoud is (12-0, 4 KOs). Heaney and Paul fought to a fan friendly draw earlier in the year and Cameron has her first fight since her rematch loss to Katie Taylor in November.

English welterweight champion Cooper (10-0, 4 KOs) from Worcester, fresh off a breakthrough stoppage of previously unbeaten young rival Eithan James in March, takes on experienced former British and Commonwealth champion Ekow Essuman ( 19-1, 7 KOs), who made four successful defenses of the Lonsdale belt he won by defeating Chris Jenkins in July 2021.

British and Commonwealth champion Lane (18-10-2, 3 KOs) from Bristol defends his titles against Liverpool knockout specialist Cain (11-1, 10 KOs), who returned to the ring earlier this months after recovering from a serious fracture. at his hand. Lane, 33, comes into the fight on the back of two brutal wins over English champion Jordan Purkiss and Chris Bourke.

Also in action will be Nottingham light heavyweight Taylor (8-0, 6 KOs) making the first defense of his title, plus three-time national champion Dan Kerrigan, who will make his four-round pro debut in the super light category.

“Nathan Heaney makes a fitting return to Brad Pauls after their hugely entertaining encounter last time out, which was declared a draw, with Liam Davies defending his IBO world title in a domestic clash against the highly qualified Shabaz Masoud.

“We’ve got three really tasty pieces to feast our eyes on, with Sol Dacres and David Adeleye looking to make some serious noise at heavyweight, and Owen Cooper vs Ekow Essuman looking like a welterweight barnstormer. Ashley Lane vs. Andrew Cain simply has fight written all over it.
