Bradford City, Chesterfield see Miguel Freckleton from Sheffield United

Bradford City, Chesterfield and Bristol Rovers are interested in Sheffield United defender Miguel Freckleton, according to a report from BristolLive.

The centre-back is attracting plenty of interest in the Football League after his loan spell at Chesterfield last season. He helped the Spirerites win promotion from the National League under Paul Cook and they are keen to lure him back on a permanent basis.

Freckleton, 20, is out of contract at Sheffield United at the end of next month and is set to become a free agent as things stand. The Blades have offered him new terms in a bid to keep him after relegation from the Premier League, but he is said to be weighing up his options.

According to BristolLive, Bradford City, Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Wycombe Wanderers will be vying with Chesterfield for his signature this summer. Unnamed teams in the Championship are also believed to be considering a shot for him as well.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Bradford City and Chesterfield are eyeing the Sheffield United defender

Freckleton has a big decision to make regarding his future at Sheffield United.

He would get more playing time if he moved to a lower league team, which he needs at this stage of his career.

The Bristol-born man played for Mangotsfield and Bristol Rovers before moving to South Yorkshire in 2021.

Freckleton has never made a senior appearance for the Blades but has been a regular for their development squad in the past.

He had loan spells at Wealdstone and Yeovil Town to gain some experience before Chesterfield came calling.

The left-back featured 19 times for Cook’s men in the last term to help them seal their fifth title.

They want him back as they prepare for life in League Two, but will have to see off competition from elsewhere.

The Spirerites recently brought in striker Paddy Madden, midfielder Tim Akinola and winger Kane Drummond and are on the lookout for further signings.

The battle is on

Bradford City have already brought in Antoni Sarcevic and Neill Byrne from Stockport County as they look to gain promotion next year under Graham Alexander and could see Freckleton as their next addition.

The Bantams may need to push the boat out to land him, although Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Wycombe Wanderers are all mentioned as potential suitors.
