Leeds United winger Ian Poveda is a permanent transfer target for Sheffield Wednesday after helping them stay in the division this month.

Leeds have had a number of players out on loan this season, with very few leaving Elland Road with good wishes for their seasons elsewhere.

Ian Poveda was one of the few Leeds fans hoped had made good, however, joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan to revive his career after struggling for game time under Daniel Farke.

Ian Poveda helps Wednesday’s miraculous survival

The Owls beat Sunderland on Saturday to secure survival from relegation, becoming the first team to remain in the division after a 13-match winless start to the season.

Danny Rohl will rightly get all the plaudits for his work as Wednesday manager since replacing Xisco Munoz, while Poveda has quickly become a fan favorite for the same reasons Leeds fans have always had a lot of time for him.

Not only has he shown his trademark charm off the field, but his work on the ball has also captured the imagination, ever since his Man of the Match display on his home debut.

Poveda searched until Wednesday definitively

Now, Alex Miller of the Star revealed that Wednesday are looking to sign Poveda permanently this summer after securing their status in the second tier:

They could bring in the winger on a free transfer, with his contract at Leeds expiring, having tried to land him permanently in January when interest first emerged – beating now-relegated Birmingham to his signature .

Other unnamed clubs are expected to be keen on the winger, with Birmingham City potentially out of the picture now that they are destined for League One.

Poveda deserves Wednesday’s permanent move

Poveda was a victim of circumstances at Leeds, with several Premier League-quality strikers in our set-up when he returned from his loan at Blackpool.

Many fans wanted to see what he could show us in pre-season and he impressed, so it was a shame he got very few opportunities since then.

However, on Wednesday he was one of their key players before this injury, and to see him there permanently would be great.
