Rain in Birmingham lives on as torrential downpours wreak havoc on rush hour travel

Flood warnings are in place across the West Midlands and heavy rain is expected to affect travel. The Met Office issued a yellow flood warning for the region in the early hours of this morning, May 22.

Some communities could be blocked by flooded roads, the Met Office said, and there could be “danger to life”. Flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and delays in public transport.




Network Rail has this morning warned passengers to expect disruption – including potential cancellations – to train services running between Birmingham International and Coventry. It said: “Due to heavy rain and flooding on the rail line between Birmingham International and Coventry, trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.

“As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.” The outage was expected to last throughout peak hours.

The Met Office said the yellow weather warning will be in place until Thursday, May 23, 6:00 a.m.

Disruption of the train

Network Rail has warned passengers to expect disruption – including potential cancellations – to train services running between Birmingham International and Coventry.

It said: “Due to flooding from heavy rain on the rail line between Birmingham International and Coventry, trains have to run at reduced speeds on all lines. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.”

Flood Warning in effect

The Met Office has issued a weather warning of “heavy rain” for Birmingham and the West Midlands – and warned there could be “danger to life”. The Met Office issued a yellow flood warning for the region in the early hours of this morning, May 22.

It will be in effect until Thursday, May 23 at 6:00 a.m.

The Met Office warning said: “Heavy rain may cause some flooding and travel disruption. Some communities may be blocked by flooded roads.”
