Coventry City are ‘finalising’ a deal for the Brazilian-Australian after an impressive season in the A-League

Coventry City have been heavily linked with a move for Australian prodigy Raphael Borges Rodrigues, who is said to have “signed a multi-year deal” with the Championship club.

Australian sports network FTBL reports the 20-year-old will “depart for the UK immediately” after Sydney club Macarthur FC “agreed an undisclosed fee” with the Sky Blues.

The report also says that Mark Robins sees Rodrigues as “capable of thriving” in the second tier of English football.

The Brazilian-Australian – the son of former Adelaide United forward Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues – has made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Bulls, netting six times with two assists.

His development, the article said, “came into full swing under the guidance of Mile Sterjovski at Macarthur”, after first appearing at A-League rivals Melbourne City.

He is claimed to have been courted by several other clubs in England and Scotland before opting to head to the Midlands.
