Wigan boss Martinez has not given up on Kirkland

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez refuses to write off goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

Martinez said the former England international, who joined Leicester City on loan in January, still has a role to play at the DW Stadium.

“We have four goalkeepers and that’s what I wanted to have.

“We have a very young one – Lee Nicholls who is going to the Under-20 World Cup – and Mike Pollitt who is very experienced and we have just signed Ali Al Habsi.

“As a player you want to play and I understand that,” said the Spaniard.
