Bradford fines woman for rat infestation caused by waste

Mrs Hafeeza Munir, owner of a property on Southmere Road, was fined £950 including costs after pleading guilty to the offense and ordered to remove waste from her property.

Talk shows

The issue first came to the attention of the environmental enforcement team in 2021. Despite numerous attempts to help Ms Munir address the issue, the council reported that she “persistently” ignored these efforts. It also stated that its failure to comply resulted in an infestation of rats that spread to neighboring properties.

In addition, the council said there were several instances of waste being set on fire in front of its property, which posed risks to nearby homes.

According to the council, Ms Munir repeatedly promised to clean up the waste, but failed to meet multiple deadlines and comply with Community Protection Notices over a number of years.

Impact

cCouncilor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “The waste from this property has had a significant negative impact on neighboring residents and the local community, particularly given the property’s proximity to a local primary school . We hope this prosecution serves as a warning to others.”
