Hull City take Liam Rosenior’s decision as rivals Leeds United crash out of the play-offs

Leeds United’s Championship rivals Hull City have sacked manager Liam Rosenior after narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

Rosenior has been nominated for the Championship manager of the year award but saw his side fail to break into the top six after defeat by Plymouth Argyle last Saturday. He has been in charge of the MKM stadium for only 18 months.

Hull City were the last team Leeds managed to beat at Elland Road in the regular season, winning 3-1 last month after a goalless draw away from home in September. Daniel Farke will be hoping his side are playing in a different division next season, of course, with a play-off semi-final against Norwich City on the horizon.

The Tigers have had a heavy investment in the January transfer window, plus secured loan deals with Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho, Luton’s Ryan Giles, Standard Liege’s Noah Ohio and Burnley’s Anass Zaroury, as well as the likes of Billy Sharp, Ivor Pandur and Abdus. I kill on permanent offers.

Our sister title, Hull Live, report that the process of hiring a replacement is underway, with a desire to make a quick appointment to fully prepare for next season and another promotion challenge.

Rosenior took over in November 2022 with City struggling at the bottom end of the Championship after a poor start to the season under Shota Arveladze. He guided them to safety and 15th last term before this season’s rise to seventh. In 78 games in charge, Rosenior won 27, drew 28 and lost 23, averaging 1.4 points per game.
