Wiltshire braced for heavy rain as ‘danger to life’ warning issued for the UK

Heavy rain is forecast to hit Wiltshire amid yellow and amber weather warnings issued.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place for south Wiltshire and will remain in place until 7pm on Wednesday 22 May.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in effect in the north of the county until noon on Thursday, May 23.

Elsewhere, an amber weather warning has been issued for the north-west, where flash flow or deep flooding is expected, causing “danger to life”.

In Wiltshire, rain is forecast to fall throughout Wednesday, with heavy showers interspersed with light showers.

The rain is expected to be heaviest in the north of the county, with Swindon set to receive some of the worst showers between 3pm and 5pm.

Showers should be lighter in the south and west of the county, with light rain forecast for Trowbridge and Salisbury.

The weather is expected to clear on Thursday, despite weather warnings remaining in place elsewhere in the country.

At the time of writing, there was no rain forecast for Wiltshire on Thursday, with light cloud and sunny intervals expected.

Those caught in wet conditions on the roads were urged to drive with caution.

A National Highways spokesman said: “The weather is changeable this week across the country with gusts of rain and sudden thunderstorms – remember to take care.”
