Chelsea have given Enzo Maresca his Leicester City release clause as the approach was revealed

Enzo Maresca has reportedly already rejected the opportunity to leave Leicester City this summer – weeks before becoming the favorite for the Chelsea job.

Speculation has been rife in recent days over the future of the Foxes boss. Maresca’s promotion-winning exploits with City during his first full year in charge in England have reportedly sparked the curiosity of elite clubs across the continent.

Of course, City will be looking to keep hold of the Italian to instil the stability needed to re-enter the top flight and maintain their status there for years to come. Therefore, the latest claim regarding Maresca comes as a major boost on Thursday.

“Enzo Maresca has been approached by Sevilla in recent weeks but has not wanted to move forward with talks,” writes reporter Fabrizio Romano on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Maresca wants to focus on the Premier League, he wants to work in PL football and stay in England.”

Of course, the 44-year-old could achieve that top-flight dream at either the King Power Stadium or Stamford Bridge. As soon as Mauricio Pochettino vacated the Chelsea job earlier this week, the City boss’ name surfaced and he has since been listed as 2/1 to take over in west London.

Either approach would ultimately leave both the manager and Foxes bosses with a major decision to make. In his post, Romano also reveals that there is a £7-8m release clause inserted into his current contract.
