The cheapest house near Birmingham is near Merry Hill with excellent transport links – so what’s wrong with that?

It’s the cheapest house for sale within five miles of town. It is close to Merry Hill shopping center and a short distance from Birmingham.

So at just £110,000, it’s an absolute steal, right? I went on a mission to find out what, if anything, was wrong with it to make it so cheap. When I say “for sale in the usual way” I mean excluding properties that can be purchased cheaply through auctions and any kind of shared ownership transactions.

The house in question is on Foxdale Road, Brierley Hill, tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac, which is an immediate plus. The first thing to say is that it is a semi-detached, not a terrace, which would normally be expected to be cheaper. So maybe even more of a deal than it first appeared.

At first glance, it seems quite nice. There is no immediately noticeable damage or anything particularly disappointing.

But you can’t get away from it – it’s small. That may be the key to its incredibly low price, we might be getting somewhere. It has only one bedroom.

So a family with three kids won’t be moving here in a hurry. But for someone who is single or a couple choosing their first home, this could be the ideal starting point at such a low price with potential for resale value.

But let’s take a look inside before jumping to any conclusions. Often with these ridiculously cheap properties, they are rotting inside and need a lot of work.

So, as we have established, it is very small. Downstairs there is a kitchen area and a miniature lounge area crammed into a small space. There’s not much to work with here, but for a single person or couple it could be manageable – even comfortable.

It looks quite nice. The carpet looks quite modern and the kitchen area seems to be in order. Heading upstairs, the bedroom is unsurprisingly small, but then again, it could work.

On to the bathroom and oh my, it has a walk in shower and a modern bath that looks like it was finished in the fairly recent past. This place costs £110,000!

The bathroom, of course, is small, like everything else, but there is enough space to do what you need to do. There is no car, but there is an allocated parking space.

There doesn’t seem to be any garden, which may be another reason for the low asking price, but that might not bother everyone. According to Rightmove, monthly repayments on 25-year mortgages would be just £597.

All within easy reach of Merry Hill shopping center and tram and train stations for someone working in Birmingham. There is also a nature reserve just around the corner.

While it is in a cul-de-sac, it is close to the built-up and industrialized town center of Brierley Hill, but some may see this as a positive rather than a negative, as it is within easy reach of shops and transport links. Transport. It won’t suit everyone, but this property, at least on the surface, looks like a bargain.
