Coventry pub is getting a huge makeover with a new beer garden

A Coventry pub is back open after a major refurbishment. The Sovereign on Charter Avenue has had a £330,000 investment to enable complete internal and external modernisation.

New and updated amenities include new flooring and an updated lounge and bar area. The updates have given the pub “a high modern feel”.

The pub, part of the Proper Pubs chain, also had a new pool table and two bespoke dartboards for recreational and competitive use. Outside, the pub has updated lighting and signage to welcome visitors and a newly refurbished garden area for patrons to enjoy in the warmer months.

For the opening night, customers were treated to a live performance by local artist, Ian Davies, and the rest of the weekend featured a range of family activities including a bouncy castle, face painting and a children’s entertainer.

The Sovereign’s operators, Michelle and Aimee Fagan, said: “The opening night was absolutely fantastic. It was a pleasure to welcome all our customers, old and new, to the newly transformed pub and it was great to be able to show off all that the Sovereign has to offer.

“The reception we have received from the local community has been amazing and we look forward to welcoming everyone back soon.”

Matthew Gurney, Chief Operating Officer for Proper Pubs, said: “The refurbishment at the Sovereign looks brilliant and I’d like to say a huge thank you to the whole team whose hard work has made this possible.
