People “almost puke” every time they open their front door

Neighbors are tired of making themselves sick every time they open their front door because of the stench from the unemptied bins in their block.

Marie Cowan, 66, of Fairfield, lives in a block of 60 flats and claims the bins have not been emptied for almost a month. She says there are about 80 garbage bags piled up stinking from the garbage shed, which is across the street from her front door.

The stench became so bad, Marie says, that she told her son to stop bringing her child to visit her because of how bad the smell had become.

Marie, who lives in Treetop Flats, owned by the Housing Association, Plus Dane Housing, told the ECHO: “I live in a block of flats in Fairfield – there are 60 flats in the block – I mean a lot of people and the bins haven’t been emptied for about four weeks. I live next to the dump. , I’m on the bottom floor and facing, when you enter it (to the garbage shed) the bins are up to the ceiling and the smell…

“There are a lot of people in wheelchairs, some people who don’t have legs living here and it’s just dangerous for them. It’s unhealthy for us to be in these conditions.”

Marie’s neighbor and good friend, Amir Minhas, 67, is one of the residents living in the Treetop Apartments, who is in a wheelchair and struggles to access the dumpster, especially in the condition current. She added: “The flats are over three floors so a lot of them have to bring their bin bags down to the ground floor – it’s a lot for the elderly and people in wheelchairs.
