The Liverpool manager looks set to confirm the early transfer, with the defender now facing an exit from Anfield

Departing goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has fueled speculation that Nat Phillips could finally leave Liverpool this summer as he wished the defender well on his “next move”.

The 27-year-old has not played for the Reds since January 2023 and has spent this season on loan at Celtic and later Cardiff City in search of regular game time.

But when Phillips took to Instagram on Wednesday night to pay tribute to Jurgen Klopp, Achterberg, who is leaving the club this summer to join Al Ettifaq, suggested the defender could be set to finally complete a permanent move from at Anfield.

“Thank you, Boss, for showing faith in me and giving me the opportunity and privilege to represent Liverpool,” Phillips wrote. “I will always be grateful for the experiences we had and the moments we shared together.”

However, Achterberg’s comment got the most attention when he said, “You’re a good quarterback Nat! Good luck in your next move”.

After a successful half-season with Cardiff, last month Phillips admitted he would be open to a return to South Wales: “I’ve enjoyed my time here and I’ve enjoyed playing regularly,” he said. “I want to continue playing regular football and enjoy my football.”
