A Bradford man who tried to lure two girls into his sweets car after accosting them in a supermarket has been jailed.

William Harrison, 63, also of Armstrong Street, offered the sweets to the two girls in a shop in Shipley before returning to his car.

He then showed them an explicit picture of himself on his phone, before offering them money to get into the vehicle.

The two girls left and were helped by a member of the public.

In a court appearance, Harrison admitted two counts of taking a child away from a person having legal custody and two counts of causing/inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

He was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Acting Detective Inspector Tom Swift of Bradford Borough Safeguarding said: “Incidents of this nature are very rare but this really was every parent’s worst nightmare. Harrison is a danger to children.

“Luckily these girls were not injured, but they were clearly distraught by what had happened.

“I would like to commend the courage of the victims to come forward and report these crimes to us. Harrison’s guilty plea spared them from having to relive the incident.”
