89 Coventry parking charges as new charges introduced

Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pockets as they face a ten per cent rise in parking charges in Coventry. The new charges came into effect on May 6, with the decision prompted by “government cuts” and the need to protect essential services, the council says.

It comes after changes were already made at the end of 2023, when drivers faced paying up to £8.50 more with cheap evening and weekend fares all scrapped in car parks. The city’s most expensive short-term car parks, such as West Orchards and Barracks, now cost £12 for up to 24 hours, up from £10.

At Silver Street car park, the hourly rate has now increased from £2.00 to £2.20. Drivers staying over 24 hours will now pay £10 instead of the £8 charge.

A Coventry City Council spokesman said: “The significant financial pressures facing the city council are caused by inflation and increasing demand for some services. by law to establish a balanced budget, and this meant that we had to identify many savings. Our priority has been to protect essential services, including those that support the most vulnerable, while continuing to deliver on the Council’s priorities.”
