Families enjoy the interactive organization of open police

The Cornwall Police Service held its annual open house on May 15 at the Crime Reduction and Community Partnerships office on Montreal Road. Community members had the chance to meet members of CPS and other local law enforcement agencies such as the RCMP and OPP.

The event featured specialty units and programs, and attendees toured police vehicles. Highlights include an RCMP boat, the Border Services K9 unit, a forensics unit vehicle and a conservation officer’s vehicle with a decoy deer.

“This is an annual event. Every year during Police Week we have an open house in the community. Many of the local law enforcement agencies come out to interact with the public,” said Cst. Bed Huygen.

“This is the third year I’ve been involved in this. It’s a good family event. The kids come out and have a lot of fun seeing all these cool things that they don’t usually see,” added Huygen.

The Optimist Club of Cornwall provided a barbecue and families enjoyed free hot dogs.
