Date, kick-off, undercard and how to watch the much-anticipated rematch in Leeds

The rematch between bitter rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall is finally coming this weekend.

“Tartan Tornado” was awarded the split decision win in Glasgow in February 2022, but many people felt that Catterall should have been crowned the winner.

In the process, Taylor retained his light welterweight titles, but later one of the judges, Ian John-Lewis, was demoted by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Plans for a rematch have so far fallen through, with the 33-year-old losing his WBO super-lightweight world title to Teofimo Lopez.

This rematch was supposed to take place last year, but had to be postponed due to Taylor’s injury, and then chose to face Lopez instead.

Taylor then suffered another injury, this time in training for the proposed April reunion, which forced it to be scrapped.

Meanwhile, “El Gato” has been riding a winning streak and is determined to put himself in a position to challenge for world honors.

The pair received punches at their first pre-fight press conference, forcing security to intervene.

Taylor vs Catterall 2: What was said?

“I watched the first fight, I didn’t appreciate it that much,” Catterall said at a press conference Thursday.

“I thought I beat him and I beat him comfortably, (but) I think I underperformed. Josh may have done the same, but we prepared for the best version of Josh.

“I feel like in the last two years I’ve improved as a fighter. I expect a better fight on Saturday. Emotions aside, I think I’m the best fighter and I’m going to show it. It’s a must-win, that’s where all my energy is focused, I don’t want to talk about what comes after that.”

Meanwhile, Taylor said: “I can’t wait to prove that last time was just an off night.

“Look at the history of boxing, all the great fighters of the past took defeats and came back and won world titles again. Just because you take one loss doesn’t mean you’re a finished fighter. I think that’s where boxing took a turn for the worse.

“It’s been a long two years with delays and injuries and stuff like that, but my health comes first. My health is paramount.

“The last fight was a stinker from both of us. Jack (do) a lot of holding and spoiling, slowing the pace; I was also very poor. I think the two of us can be a lot better and it will be a better fight for the fans. I feel like it’s going to be a great fight, a stormer.

“Let him believe that (he will stop me). If he wants to do that, great. Absolutely fantastic, music to my ears. I really don’t care how I win this fight. The way we’ve been in the gym, if I catch him with those shots, it’s going to be over – it’s going to be really devastating for him.”
