Chelsea make Enzo Maresca decision as Leicester City talks update emerges

Chelsea have focused on Enzo Maresca to succeed Mauricio Pochettino as Leicester City are expected to be asked for permission to speak to their manager.

Things have moved quickly in a matter of days, from the Londoners parting ways with the former manager despite a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, plus reaching Wembley twice this year, to the Foxes manager being listed favorite for the post. while Chelsea’s interest has been confirmed.

Now, according to a report in The Guardian, those interested have “set their sights” on Maresca and are set to act imminently, seeking permission from City chiefs to speak to their Italian coach.

They say it remains a far from done deal, however, as the Stamford Bridge side weigh in on the pros and cons of signing either the 44-year-old or Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank completes the trio that look set to pass the first round of Chelsea scrutiny, while whispers of Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim and Girona’s Michel are cooling.

The reason why Maresca’s stock is so high – higher even than some of Europe’s most promising managers in their countries’ top tiers – is because of his tutelage under Pep Guardiola and, of course, the championship winner’s medal he received in his first season with City.
