Danny Rohl reveals where he aims to finish with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship next season

Danny Rohl has spoken about his ambitions for Sheffield Wednesday next season.

The head coach guided Sheffield Wednesday to survival in his first campaign, with the club finishing three points above the relegation zone.

The Owls spent eight months in the bottom three before bowing out with just two games remaining.

It was a huge setback for Wednesday, who will feel much more confident next season.

Their future could very well depend on Danny Rohl, but it seems the German is now ‘close’ to signing a new contract.

Kicker have reported that the German will put pen to paper on a deal that will see him stay at the club until 2027.

Rohl also spoke about his plans for the 2024/25 season and where he hopes his team can finish this time next year.

Speaking to Kicker, he said: “Continuity even in my own career is good for me.

“It’s helpful for my personal development to continue here.” He wants to take his team to the next level of development next season.

“It would be good if we could stabilize and further develop everything, and placing in the top ten of the league would be a good step.”

Rohl also added that it is important to improve the squad to be in with a chance of reaching the top half of the championship.

However, the interest in the German coach will not stop there

When journalists and fans start making their predictions for next season, it would be very surprising if many of them have Sheffield Wednesday relegated – or even fighting relegation.

Rohl has already made a brilliant impact at Hillsborough and is yet to have a summer transfer window at the club.

Wednesday’s success over the next few months could “depend” on the 35-year-old’s stay, with many players more likely to commit their futures to the club if he is in charge.

While Wednesday will feel a lot better knowing that Rohl could stick around for three more years, it will be interesting to know what effect that will have on his high compensation fees.

If he goes down, then that could make the German a huge target over the course of the season.

There is no doubt that if Wednesday really impresses next season, then even Premier League and Bundesliga clubs could start looking towards Yorkshire.
