Former Leicestershire policeman accused of using warrant to enter nightclub while suspended

A former police officer has been accused of twice using his warrant card to enter a nightclub while suspended. Leicestershire Police say the unnamed constable should have known the suspension removed his right to present himself as a member of the force.

The first incident allegedly took place in October last year. The officer “falsely identified himself as a police officer and/or presented a defunct warrant card, which resulted in him being denied entry to a nightclub in Hinckley”, the force added.

Leicestershire Police said the former officer “should have known that he had ceased to hold the position of a police officer as a result of his suspension”. The man is further accused of a similar incident at the same club a month later.

In November, he “again presented a decommissioned warrant card to gain entry to the same club when he was initially denied entry due to time.” He is due to appear before an expedited virtual hearing for gross misconduct later this month.

Leicestershire Police say that, if proven, these actions are a breach of standards of professional conduct, including honesty and integrity; and amounts to discreditable conduct and gross misconduct.
