Sheffield United ace who grew up watching Derby County ready for exit after transfer decision

Ben Osborn is set to leave Sheffield United this summer after the Blades decided not to take up the option in his contract, according to reports.

The midfielder, who grew up watching Derby County on the terraces, had a one-year extension on his contract at Bramall Lane. But according to Alan Nixon, the Blades have decided not to exercise their right to retain him, meaning he will become a free agent.

Osborn made 26 appearances for United in the Premier League this season but they were relegated to the Championship in what was a torturous campaign.

The midfielder was born in Derby and watched them on the terraces as a youth and his father was a big Rams fan. But the 29-year-old came through the ranks at rivals Nottingham Forest which complicated matters before joining United.

“It’s a bit strange,” he said in an interview with the Sheffield Star.

“Most of my colleagues are Derby fans. I’ve been through the ranks at Forest and I’ve come to dislike them a bit, but it’s a weird one.
