This year’s theme is Forward Together: Accessibility and Inclusion for All; the city’s accessibility advisory committee is hosting the event on Monday

PRESS RELEASE
TOWN OF BRADFORD WEST GWILLIMBURY
**************************
National Accessibility Week is dedicated to celebrating, promoting and supporting the inclusion and accessibility of people with disabilities across Canada.

National Accessibility Week 2024 takes place between May 26 and June 1, under the theme Forward Together: Accessibility and Inclusion for All.

“While we have made tremendous strides in creating a more accessible BWG for all, through the advice and support of our accessibility advisory committee, city staff and council remain committed to continuous improvement in this area. National Accessibility Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate our achievements as we renew our commitment to creating a barrier-free municipality.” — Mayor James Leduc

Throughout the week, the City of BWG will celebrate disability accessibility and inclusion in our community and invite residents to celebrate the achievements of people who proactively identify, remove and prevent barriers to disability accessibility and inclusion.

Participation in AccessAbility Week

There are many ways to get involved in AccessAbility Week.

  1. Participate in our event and flag raising
Join our Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) for their annual AccessAbility Week event at the Leisure Center on Monday 27th May from 2pm to 5pm. AAC will have a booth in the community corner (inside) of the Recreation Center, ready to answer your questions and listen to your ideas. A flag raising will follow at 5:30pm outdoors at the Leisure Centre.
  2. Participate in Red Shirt Day
We encourage community members to wear red on Wednesday, May 29 to show their support for people living with disabilities and their commitment to helping create an accessible and inclusive Canada. Share a selfie or group photo using the hashtags #NAAW, #RedShirtDay and #RedForAccessAbility and tag @townofbwg. Learn more at www.redshirtday.ca.
